    A Question about breasts-
    -or the entire lack thereof.

Hi, some backstory first to illuminate the picture properly. I'm 27 and I'm about 6 months pregnant. This means that my stomach has distended well past the point where I can skate by with wearing "normal" clothes and I'm now getting those looks that indicate that it's incredibly obvious that I'm pregnant. This is also my first pregnancy.

Further backstory, I have never had breasts. Quite literally. I wish I could say that I was using exaggeration in order to be humorous, but I'm not. I'm less than a third of an A-cup if that and always have been even when I was over 40 lbs overweight (but that's another story).

So with all this in mind, you can probably guess what my question is going to be. When are they supposed to come in? I've heard thousands of reassurances from various women that they will get bigger when my milk comes in but I can honestly tell you that I've been leaking like rusty old pipes and I've got no growth to show for it. I'm beginning to realize the heartbreaking truth that I may have gotten some really, really cruddy genetic code and that I will simply never grow breasts regardless of weight or hormone levels, but I thought I would ask a wider audience to see if anyone might have any other previously unknown information on this. (Naturally, it doesn't help that I feel just *so attractive* while being pregnant that this little tidbit has to pop up and give me an even worse complex than I had before).

So yeah, any ideas? Don't be afraid to tell the absolute, blunt truth. In fact, I'd rather prefer it.

I have a vintage decorative bird cage I wanted to fix up and put into my daughter's room, but I'm in a bit of a pickle.

Can I sand the rust off of it while I'm pregnant? That doesn't sound safe, but is it?
Also, is there a spray paint that is safe for pregnant women? I asked my brother if there is a latex based spray and he said he didn't think so because of the aerosol.

Anyone know about this kind of stuff?

    Help talk me down!
Ok, I am newly pregnant with my first.  I'll be six weeks tomorrow (assuming that my cycle was a normal 28 days...it can vary).

Anyway, I started out on the BabyCenter and WhatToExpect forums, and now I'm freaking myself out.  According to those forums, every single pregnancy ends in blighted ovums or misscarriages or empty sacs or something like that.   I know realistically something like 1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage, but over there you'd think it's a miracle that anyone ever makes it full term.    I asked a question and one lady was like "Yeah, I had a blighted ovum at 6 weeks and another time I went into my appointment at 11 weeks and there was no heartbeat, so yeah...enjoy your pregnancy."     Um, how the hell am I supposed to enjoy it with all those terrible stories?

I know that there's a chance something could happen, but I need positive thoughts!  I've made myself super anxious now that I'm going to get to my first appointment on Feb. 9 and they'll be like, "Oh, I'm so sorry...."

    Malnutrition
    Hi guys,

Morning sickness kicked into high gear last Thursday, and since then I've barely been able to keep anything down. And I do mean anything. I think I've eaten maybe a bowl of soup total and a few cups of orange juice in the last six days. I've been taking folic and drinking water as much as I can, but I'm extremely weak. I'm also SO HUNGRY, but I can't bear to put anything in my mouth, or even think about food, and whenever I do I instantly feel even worse.

I have real concerns that I'm going to just pass out where I'm standing one of these days if nothing changes.

Should I be concerned? Is this totally normal, or do I need help?

    IVF babies
    Hello ladies,

Anyone here pregnant after IVF? How many tries, and what meds were you on?

I am on day 4 of Superfact and a pill to bring on my period. I am taking .02cc of Superfact daily...no side effects so far...but I've been feeling very RAWR since last night.

I should be going in for my first ultrasound and blood test next week.

I know it's rare for it to happen the first time...but for some reason I just feel like it will you know? Doesn't help that my Husband's horoscope on astrology zone (scary acurate) says that his SO could be pregnant by month end, early Feb which is right in line.

So other then Superfact and this other pill (5 days only to bring on AF), I just take another shot after the eggs have been put back home.

I feel like I am doing a heck of a lot less then other ladies. I know my doc seems to think that my PCOS and blocked tubes are going to make this good for me as even with PCOS I get my monthly on time every month and I ovulate as well (don't ask why they diagnosed me as PCOS my DH and I are stumped a bit...I'm about 50 pounds overweight...we think that's it. I am now on 4 metformin pills a day. I was almost 250 last Jan, I am not at 225ish).

I think I just need to hear from some girls who made it.

If it helps, I'm 29 he's 35 and he has a low count..but not low enough that they put him on clomid and they didn't give me clomid either.

    Thanks!

    Scootababy?
Does anyone have any experience with Scootababy carriers? A friend got one and it looks great, but I'd like to hear more reviews.
I've been looking for a structured carrier with wide shoulder straps and this seems to fit the bill.

On that note; does anyone have a used one they would like to sell me? I just can't convince the hubs to spend $100+ on a carrier.

So I've been a total baby stuff/nursery/cleaning rampage the past few weeks. I think it's that nesting time indeed. I'm pretty sure we're well prepared but I can't help but feel like I'm missing some things... Any thoughts??

Using a 12 year old breast pump?
So, my aunt has a breast pump she wants to give/loan me. The problem is, it's about 12 or 13 years old. I don't know a ton about breast pumps. I've read on here about people getting breast pumps from friends and whatever but being able to replace the tubing and other stuff. The problem with this one is since it's so old I doubt I'd be able to get replacement parts (I don't know what brand it is).

When I mentioned to her about how I read that people can get replacement tubing and other things for a used breast pump she said that the milk doesn't go in the tubes and just falls down into a bottle (or something) from the pump or suction things.

I don't doubt that she cleaned it, and I know she doesn't have any diseases, but I'm just not sure about this. Hasn't breast pump technology advanced in the last 10 years? I'm also kind of a germaphobe too, so a pump without new parts kind of squicks me out.

I don't know what to do though. Most, if not almost all of my stuff (especially expensive stuff) that I am going to get from showers and whatever is going to be from my aunts, and they are doing a ton for me already, so I feel bad about turning down her pump and registering for a new one since they're so expensive.

What do you think? What do you think I should do, just use my aunt's pump?

17w6d (I know I'm a long way from needing a breast pump, but she's asked me if I want to use hers a couple times already)

    I want it over,
This pregnancy is better is some ways than my first. At least I don't have morning sickness 24/7 for the entire 9 months. But I am so tired and soooooooo sore. With my first pregnancy I was off for the last trimester because of the severe morning sickness and hip pain. The pain didn't start until the last 2 months of that pregnancy. This time it started a lot earlier. The hip pain started at about 4 months pregnant this time and is just getting worse. I feel like a wish bone that someone has been trying to break in two for the past 2 and 1/2 months. I'm about 6 and 1/2 months pregnant right now and some days just walking a few blocks makes me cry it is so painful. I just needed to vent. Thanks!

"cats suck the breath out of a baby" - myth or fact????
Rant and serious question - please help me!!!!

OK, so I was talking to my mom and one of her friends about how I'm planning on separating the cats from baby while baby is asleep, and we got into a calm, but internally-heated discussion. I left the discussion on the verge of tears, and pissed off at the both of them. I have 2 cats currently, and am VERY opposed to getting rid of a pet unless it is because you are no longer physically or financially capable of taking care of it. (This probably stemmed from having to get rid of all of the pets i had in my childhood because my dad didn't LIKE them, and from the fact that i volunteered at an animal shelter for 4 years). Regardless, these are my values. I was told that my cats would try to kill my baby by smothering them, and that I hneeded to get rid of both of the cats immediately. I rebutted this by saying that I am insistent on constant supervision of all parties (cats and baby, both), and that as long as I keep the house fastidiously clean, there shouldn't be a problem. Then I was told by my mom's friend that, "Well, you can't put your baby second to the cats." I didn't say anything, but I was thinking, "Whoa, who the f*** said I was putting my cats before my baby??? Just because I don't think it's ok to get rid of pets just because I'm expecting a child, does that mean I'm a bad mother-to-be? I like to think I'm not going to be..." There are many people who have multiple children - it's not like just because the older child COULD injure the baby, or leave an unsanitary mess on the floor that the baby could crawl through, that the parents are going to "get rid of" their CHILD. (ok, maybe that's extreme, but still). I come from a place where I SAW with my own two eyes, dogs that were put up for adoption ONLY because their "parents" were having a baby.

    So, here's my question:
Is there ANY WAY that you ladies think I could work out to allow my cats AND my baby to coexist in peace, or am I just fooling myself?

    EDA:
Yes, definiitely will be keeping the babies! (the first ones, I mean lol) Thank you all for your helpful advice - it alleviates many of my feelings of being a "bad mother" if I DID keep my kitties. Zappa & Bella have forever homes here!

    The Midwife
I just finished reading "The Midwife" by Jennifer Worth. It's a memoir of a midwife in the 1950s in London. She has some great stories, but one of them was completely incredible and I thought I'd share it here.

A woman was having her 25th child, and went into labor prematurely at 28 weeks because of a fall she had on the ice where she received some head trauma. Later that night was when the labor started. She didn't know much English, so her husband and oldest daughter did most of the communicating between her and the midwife. The baby was born, his head was the size of a ping pong ball, but he was breathing. When the hospital staff arrived to pick up the baby to take him back to the big hospital where he would be taken care of, the mother refused to let him go. She held him in her hand between her breasts and kept saying "He will not die" in spanish, though everyone around her was telling her that the baby WILL die if it does not go to the hospital. But she held onto him and sent the hospital staff home. She expressed colustrum/breastmilk into a dish and fed her baby a few drops of it every hour. The baby was always lying on top of her, skin to skin. After a week or so she built a sling so that she could carry him around with her next to her skin, she still fed him just as frequently. He survived!

Of course there's much more detail in this story than what I wrote here, but I just thought this was incredible and wanted to share it!

I hope it's okay to post twice in a row.  I'm just wondering if anyone else is completely losing their minds when it comes to registering?  I literally have NO IDEA what to get.  By that, I mean, what brand of bottles, what size of bottles, how many bottles, what kind of diaper pail, which diaper bag, what kind of feeding set, what size, how many, etc?  There's just too many choices and each item is so specific that I feel like if I register for the wrong think I'll be making this grave mistake.  My mother and I went to Babies R' Us and started a registry and I left feeling like crap.  Neither of us knew what to get.  One minute I'll add something to my registry and then I'll read something that suggests another item and I'll delete it.  I just feel so lost.

Here's an example.  I had registered for a set of Dr. Brown's bottles, but after reading a response in my post regarding breast pumps, I found out I'm going to need nipples with the slowest flow.  Are nipples sold separately from the bottles?  Dr. Brown's doesn't sell slow flow nipples (or at least that's what I've read).  Can you mix and match brands?  For example, can I buy Dr. Brown's bottles and get Gerber slow flow nipples?

I'm just so confused by this whole process.

For the breastfeeding ladies who will be going/have gone back to work, which breast pump have you/will you be using?  I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Medela brand, but after that the options are so overwhelming that I think my mind will explode.

I've been feeling a bit nervous because i plan to do a natural birth, but never found/made time for any classes... i have 8 weeks left and i'm horrified, so i did a search and came across something pretty awesome. Free Online Childbirth Class, it's on about.com, but it's pretty informative and i've already learned a few things! I cant say it's like a legitimate "class" persay, but it covers topics that i want to know about and that i think are helpful, and it's always easier for me to have it written in front of me!

    My pregnancy double-sneeze phenomonon
Ok, I have never shared this with anyone, but it is true and it cracks me and my husband up all the time.
I am on my third pregnancy. Actually, due to be induced on Tuesday (and trying to kill time while waiting, wide awake in the middle of the night thinking about the impending labor and birth).
During each of my pregnancies... and never ever at any other time when not pregnant... I have had a strange way of sneezing. We call it a double-sneeze. It is like I sneeze and while that sneeze is happening it is interupted by a second sneeze... kind of like aaaachoo-choo!!! lol!

Three pregnancies, many double sneezes during each of them. We think it is funny. My hubby says I am sneezing for two. lol
Has anyone ever heard of this or had anything similar happen? Had any other strange reactions to pregnancy that seem unique? Just curious, thanks!

I thought I'd share a picture of my before pregnancy figure just to show how mind blowing it is to be the size I am now (I'm sure you can all relate). I'm not kidding when I say my main describers used to be "Beanpole" or "Toothpick". And as bad as it seems, I really hate being as thin as I am without the ability to gain more weight (until baby, lol). Enjoy my pictures!

    Another Hypnobabies question
I could seriously cry right now.

I had been looking locally for a Hypnobabies homestudy course for MONTHS. I haven't been able to afford eBay prices but was going to have to because I couldn't find a better one anywhere else.

On the first, I FINALLY found a lady who was selling the entire course for $50. I jumped right on it, she said she still had it. She lived 40+ miles away but I told her I'd be there today (I emailed her on the first). She gave me her schedule, said shed leave it out for me and told me where to put the money. My husband and I got in the car to head down there and I emailed her twice, asking for her address because I realized she never sent it. We gave up and I was very stressed cause my husband is going out of town, I'd have to make the drive myself and I am already 32+ weeks so I am beyond anxious to get started!

The lady JUST wrote me back and said 'Sorry I didn't get back to you. I sold it.'

What the holy freaking crap. I'm not sure if I'm angry, feeling betrayed, beyond my point off extreme stress or just heartbroken. How could someone do that? I could never! I have learned my lesson, get a dang phone number.

I got on eBay and couldn't find one I can afford. I got on Amazon and found something that says 'Hypnobabies bundle for hypnomoms and happy hypnobabies' or something, it says it's a CD and is $60. There's a book I can add to make it $76, it's the paperback 3rd edition Hypnobabies book. The Mognan method? Please forgive my lack of photographic memory right now.

If I buy both of these, do they go together to make the complete study? Please tell me what should make up the entire study, I was really depending on starting!

    Question about anatomy scan
Our anatomy ultrasound is the 15th, and we're so excited. :) At that point I'll be 21w3d so our doctor is virtually positive he'll be able to identify the sex for us. Yay!

I remember when we first found out we were pregnant... finding out the sex seemed soooo far away! But in retrospect it's gone by so fast... I hope labor and delivery takes its time getting here; I'm JUST beginning to enjoy pregnancy (as my hyperemesis gravidarum has FINALLY begun to subside, hallelujah).

Anyway, I have an actual question. :) Is the anatomy scan generally a vaginal or abdominal scan? Or is it just up to your doctor / the tech? I know this sounds stupid but I was wholly unprepared for that initial vaginal ultrasound. It was uncomfortable. Obviously I'll be fine with either method; I'd just like prepare myself beforehand. :)

    Ultrasound for Twins
At around 6w I had a gallstone attack. In the ER they did an ultrasound and found two fetal looking "things" (wow, pregnancy brain already). One had a heartbeat but the other didn't. It's completely normal at 6w for the heart to not have started so the tech wasn't sure if it was just a shadow, and she couldn't recreate the second form. The radiologist confirmed they saw it and sent me to follow up with my OB. I'm 11w2d and tomorrow we're going for an ultrasound. From what I've read the baby would be the size of a plum or lime at this point, so what's the likelihood that one baby could hide behind the other? I have no idea how this twins stuff works. :) I just want to be confident with the results of the ultrasound tomorrow on whether or not I'm having twins.
